Jina Anne (Bolton)

Lead Designer, Design Systems

San Francisco, CA, USA
I’m a designer and HTML/CSS developer (preferably with Sass), with a passion for design systems (and style guides and pattern/component/UI libraries). I enjoy building engaging communities both online and in real life. I’m also a published author and public speaker. With a strong interest in clean grid design and elegant typography, I enjoy creating beautiful, user-centered web sites and applications.

Lead Designer, Design Systems

With the Salesforce Lightning Design System now successfully embraced by the company and our engineering organizations, I took on more responsibility leading the design of the design system and supporting resources, by treating the design system itself as a product. Responsibilities range from user research, to interaction design and information architecture, art direction, content strategy, documentation authoring, frontend development, user testing, and education and advocacy through support and evangelism (both internally and externally).
January 2016 - August 2017 California, United States

Senior Designer, Design Systems

Shifting focus from supporting product feature work, my role became more focused on the design system and the design systems team. During this time, I worked with my manager to pitch and plan what a CSS framework with supporting documentation site would look like, and how it would impact the way we design and deliver user experiences at Salesforce. I helped shaped the vision of what our team does and how other designers and engineers worked with us. Much of my time was spent roadmapping, wireframing, and prototyping the alpha of the design system.
January 2015 - December 2015 California, United States

Senior Product Designer

I worked on the SF Cloud team (later renamed “Systems”) to help ensure the designers’ specs were codified properly through Design Tokens, following our Salesforce1 Style Guide visual language. I helped us level up our Design Tokens through inspiring and helping with the design of the open source tool, Theo, which we use to generate Design Tokens for multiple platforms and devices like Sass, Less, Stylus, Android, iPhone, and even color swatches. I also collaborated with other designers on features like Record Home and Search to ensure that the designs were delivered in a scalable way.
December 2013 - December 2015 San Francisco, California, United States

Product Designer, Do

Designing for the iPhone app, Android app, desktop web app, and our marketing website, I did interaction design, visual design, and frontend development in a rapid-paced start up of only 8 people and 3 designers total. We focused on improving the way people work and collaborate with each other in an easy, social way. I also designed and maintained our style guide, and rearchitected the Sass codebase to be maintainable and modular.
