A grid is a network of lines that cross each other to form a series of squares or rectangles. In my work I created new variations of what a grid means to me and how it relates to my everyday life. It is the main component in my work. Growing up in downtown Chicago I was constantly surrounded by different examples of what a grid is. Architecturally, every building has to follow a form of grid system in order for the building to be complete. These frameworks provide structure and order in today’s society. Currently I want to work on creating a series of work that contain these characteristics both in my art and design work.

I feel balance, order, and symmetry can make someone feel calm or relaxed and able to see different forms of images & text fitting into each other in a harmonious way. In my recent series of collage making I am focusing on the shape of a circle as the hierarchy of my grid. It is a shape that keeps begining. An important aspect of my collage is that everywhere you look in the composition, you see new content. Chicago is a city that keeps moving at a rapid pace. Everyone has their repeating daily routines that never seem to end. The city is constantly changing its appearance day by day. My current series of work will continue to shed light on these topics of urban life and how it affects us all.
