Manage a staff of seven people in design, composition, typesetting

Train the group in digital book development including and not limited to HTML and CSS

Coordinate conversion epubs for 2 children's imprints using an outside vendor

Create reflowable children's epub from InDesign

Develop workflow strategy for in-house production of digital products, including ebooks, enhanced content, and digital-only books (ebook originals)

Train and oversee freelance staff

Support the Digital Content Development team by preparing ebooks for sale for the following Simon & Schuster imprints: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, Atheneum, Margaret K. McElderry Books, Aladdin, Little Simon, Simon Spotlight

Coordinate conversion of about 500 books per year using an outside vendor and, increasingly more often, in-house from InDesign source

Review ebooks for content consistency, design, validity, and cross-platform functionality

Help move digital workflows upstream in the publish process: Work with design and copyediting departments to develop specifications for manuscript preparation that ease conversion to digital formats

Train the design, copyediting, and managing editorial departments to follow guidelines described above.

Design book interiors for Hardcover, trade paperback and mass market trim sizes

Update page counts and book schedules

Generate purchase orders

Supervise jobs sent to freelancers and vendors

Create photo inserts and size art for printer

Preflight book interiors and jackets to make printer ready PDFs

Archive all parts of children's books
