Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez is an established scriptwriter, director and producer and television and radio personality in Latin America and the Caribbean. Born in Puerto Rico, she began her career in the late 1980's as a director and producer, and political reporter for US television and radio networks PBS NPR, FOX and Jay Sears News Services, interviewing personalities such as President Mikhail Gorbachev, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, Vice-President Al Gore, Senator George Allan, Governor Douglas Wilder, as well other international personalities. Later she worked as executive producer, script writer supervisor, and hosted several top television shows transmitted at Red PAT, Teletica, Bolivision, Telemundo, Univision, and Pentagon Network.

In 2003 she wrote, produced and protagonist the movie "Latin Comedy" a social satire about how Hispanics were manipulated by the media with the legendary Cuban comedian, director and scriptwriter Leopoldo Fernandez known as "Tres Patines" and "Machito Pichon". She received a Bachelor in Psychology from the Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master in Educational Media from Virginia State University, and culminated a Ph.D. in Business Administration in Marketing and a Post Graduate Certificate in International Business from Argosy University. Dr. Alvarez has taught Mass Communications and Marketing in many universities around the world. In addition she was the Dean of the MBA Center at Columbia University in Puerto Rico. Dr. Alvarez has taught Journalism, Mass Communications, and Marketing at many universities around the world, including Universidad de Québec in Montreal, Virginia State, University of Puerto Rico, Universidad Catolica Boliviana, and The Puerto Rico State Guard Military Institute. In addition, she served as Dean of the MBA Center at Columbia University in Puerto Rico.

In broadcast news, she has worked for over 20 years as News Director, Investigative Reporter, Marketing Strategist, and Executive Producer for many international television networks and production houses, including FOX, PBS, Univision, Red Pat, Teletica, Planet Films, Radio Puerto Rico, and the National Radio Network.

In 2004, Janet Alvarez established her own radio show, “Quejate y te lo Resolvemos”, on prime time at Radio Puerto Rico Network and the National Radio Network. In this show, the microphones were opened to the audience to denounce acts of injustice, corruption, and poor service of the state and federal agencies of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. After receiving each complaint, Alvarez called the offenders directly and confronted them on- air. In this radio show, Janet Alvarez (known as “The People’s Attorney”) demonstrated outstanding community service, helping resolve cases for the underserved populations of the islands of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Janet Alvarez-Gonzalez is considered one of the top 10 Hispanic Women in News, and is ranked as one of the 100 most affluent personalities in the History of Puerto Rico.

In 2008, she transferred from the National Guard in Puerto Rico to the Texas Military Forces and was appointed as MAJOR where she served as Public Affairs Officer in charge of all the news personnel for the State of Texas. On October 15, 2010 she completed her military tour, and received an Honorable Discharge and the Medal of Merit for “her extraordinary service for the State of Texas”.

Since 2010, Janet is the international reporter of La Voz Hispana de New York (Hispanic Voice of New York), the largest and oldest print and online newspaper in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Read Less
