Currently I work as Art Director for Mattel Games, Advanced Concepts & Special Projects. Working in games I predominantly design branding packaging and product graphics. I love what I do as it is a wonderful mixture of designing for communication and graphics as well as directing for illustration and photography. Working on Mattel Innovation I get to dive deep into brainstorms and research tinkering with the best of tomorrows technology to help build the future of play.

Art Director

As and Art Director I support a number of divisions within the Mattel Toy Box. My primary roles are in Advanced Concepts / Games Branding and Packaging design teams. The Advanced Concepts team focuses on launching exciting innovative Branding, UI/UX and Packaging for a wide range of consumer tech related items. The group is focused on creating new and innovative packaging concepts for the ToyBox division; by understanding the consumer, trends and technology that are then translated into successful product. This involves creating and communicating concepts in 2D and/or 3D models, packaging, and design. The Games team focuses on branding, packaging and all graphics for traditional card and board games like Scrabble, UNO, Pictionary as well as Adult and Party Games. The ideal candidate will possess proven branding/packaging/UI/UX design experience showing ability to work on challenging and fun products.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

My primary function is to create Brand Statements through innovative design
- Design and develop packages from concept to production
- Create package concepts & brand statements that are on trend
- Design UI/UX for companion apps as needed
- Create instruction booklets/Quick Start Guides
- Work with management to further develop branding and package designs
- Effectively communicate product statement and features through package design
- Work with copywriter & engineer to create cohesive packaging/brand statement
- Partner with product design & marketing counterparts to ensure package works well with product and marketing needs
- Art direct photo shoots
- Art direct in-house & outside resources such as illustrators, photo re-touchers, and other artists to develop elements of package
- Comp packages for presentations
- Communicate with China counterparts to ensure quality and integrity of package design from production to shelf

Packaging – Developed concept renderings for pitch to the sales team and merchants, created dielines and designed packaging for LORAC’s mainline specialty boxes and co-branding with retailers. Print – Developed varied printed materials for use in the retail stores including flyers, posters, banners and gondola signage. Web – created eblasts, banners for the LORAc web-site assets for re-sellers web-sites and worked on LORAC’s website re-design. Product Design – Worked closely with the product development team in brainstorming and rendering new products as well as designing dielines and artwork for all primary containers. Product Photographer – Responsible for conducting all product photography Model Photography – Responsible for both shooting Model Photography as well as giving creative direction on contracted photo shoots.
