Harlan Weber

Designer | Researcher

Boston, MA, USA
Thoughtful, experienced UX designer, with a focus on new product and service development for web, mobile, and physical products. Standing at the intersection of user needs, business imperatives, and technological advancements, I take a holistic, user-centered approach to design challenges and product development.

In seven years as a professional, I've worked in cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams of software developers, user researchers, industrial designers, mechanical engineers, and product managers to craft delightful, useful, and fulfilling experiences that enrich user's lives.

I believe that interesting work is most often done at the edges of disciplines, where disparate ideas can meet, mingle, and yield innovative results. I'm looking to work on projects that are ambitious, technically challenging, and contribute to the social good.

Code For Boston

Brigade Captain [Volunteer]

Code for Boston is the local branch of Code for America’s Brigade program. Brigades are volunteer groups of talented developers, designers, data scientists, researchers, citizen activists, and more, looking to give back to their communities by building civic applications, opening public data sources, and generally helping to leverage technology for use in the public sphere.

In my time as Captain, I've helped to grow our community to 700+ general members and 30 core members, launched six volunteer-built web applications (Pantry Pickup, @MBTA Alerts, Vote Cambridge, Census Map, WillTheyTow.Me, and MA Code), and helped the City of Cambridge craft their open data ordinance. I coordinate our Weekly Civic Tech Hack Night, which has been running for over a year and averages 25 attendees every week. I've also presented our work at UXPA Boston 2013 and UMass Boston's Technology in Government Symposium, and run two events of 100+ attendees (Boston Civic Expo 2013 and RHoK Boston 2013).
