The Effects of Training in Emotion, Shape, and Color Relationships in Elementary Students on the Spectrum

Quantitative Research Study conducted from March 2016 until May 2016 in a private elementary school for students with communication disorders and autism spectrum disorder. The study was done on students from the ages of 7-8 who are diagnosed on the autism spectrum either through medical diagnosis or on their IEP.

The purpose of the study was to test the effects of training in emotions, shapes, and color relationships in elementary school students diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. Over five weeks, students were pre and post-tested using a self-created research tool to measure change after reading a book picked by the researcher. The purpose was to introduce connection between emotions and shapes and colors. Because of the broadness of symptoms for participants on the spectrum, no two students with the diagnosis were the same.
