What comes to your mind when you think of storytelling? Reading a fairytale to an audience of young children? Or how about writing the next romance novel?

For me, storytelling is exposing the world in creative, engaging ways that help us understand each other, and Earth itself, better. This definition encouraged me to pursue journalism as a craft, film a full-length documentary, and help young adults tell their stories across the country.

Part of being a good storyteller is not letting age get in the way of producing with seasoned writers, reporters and directors. At 17, I was the first minor ever hired at The San Diego Union Tribune. Around the same time, the American Legion of California asked me to represent the state during the 2012 session of Boys’ Nation, where I met with President Barack Obama and 97 of the nation’s finest young men.

Some would call me a Greyhound—that is, a non-partisan thinker who is constantly hunting for the next best story. An uncontrollable urge for something new and exciting led me to Germany to film a unique program that brought Jews and Muslims together from Israel in 2014. The documentary, “Seeking Peace, Finding Hope,” would later gain recognition in Southern California and be used as an educational tool in some high school classrooms.

At the end of the day, I absolutely love what I do. Whether it’s sports, the environment, or politics, it’s hard to back away from a story that could enlighten and bring all of us closer to humanity. Who knows? Maybe the next one includes you.
