my entry for paoks design competition involving patterns
submitted for paoks contest.

The Golden Ratio is what we call anirrational number: it has an infinitenumber of decimal places and it neverrepeats itself. Generally, we round theGolden Ratio to 1.618.
It has also been used aesthetically as a unitof measurement in greek architecture andperceived as a proportion which exemplifiesbeauty, perfection, and balance throughsymmetry.

Patterns or tilings reflect the basicmathemathical properties of the goldenratio as tesselations ( irregular shapes orcombinations of shapes that interlockcompletely to cover a surface or plane.)

This design comes from this principleand that the idea that mathemathics andart both converge in a manner that isnaturally pleasing, based on a natural orderor law as described by the golden ratio.this certain balance also reflects the beliefof yin and yang, or the idea of equity/balanceof things, both dark (as the grey areas) andlight elements (as the gold/orange areas); ofwhich the most basic notions are the ff.:
-good and evil-life and death-love and war
these topics are identified as contrasts.these contrasts are emphasized through theuse of different colors and elements whichall come together in such harmony toachieve perfect balance, both as an aestheticand as an ideological IDEA.
