Whilhelm's Piano was created for the 2012 Keys 4/4 Kids Pianos on Parade. Keys 4/4 Kids works to make pianos available to children from all socioeconomic backgrounds. This piece was on public display at the Landmark Center, St. Paul, Mn, as well as the 2012 Minnesota State Fair. It will be auctioned off to a permanent home, all proceeds to benefit the continual mission of Keys 4/4 Kids. Read Less

Music cannot be created by instruments alone -  someone must operate the machine, imparting the effects of the surrounding environment to it. An instrument is both a collection of purpose-made parts, and a collector of the environment it exists in. 

Via application of lo-res enlargements of both the internal workings of various pianos and scenes of Minnesota, I attempted to expose the internal dichotomy of the piano. The works title is in reference to Wilhelm Rontgen, who is credited with the discovery of the x-ray.
