Vredefort Dome Stamp Series
Two sets of postage stamp illustrations of the Vredefort Dome world heritage site for the South African Post Office. The styles used in the two sets of stamps have been inspired by topographical maps, subterranean strata and the geological significance of the Vredefort Dome.
The designs are meant to be bold, striking and informative. In both sets, stamps have been dedicated to the meteor itself, the granitic gneiss rock formations that took shape beneath the surface of the earth, the deposits of gold that have been pushed upwards and made accessible for mining purposes and the granophyre dykes that have been exposed by erosion.
Set 1 - Pen and Ink
Set 2 - Gouache
