  • Viscera was created for my 2012 solo exhibition BASE NATURE as a meditation on the sacredness of form, and the relationship between form and spirit. The keystone piece in the exhibition, ‘Viscera’ was based upon the Buddhist insight that all suffering or dissatisfaction arises from a mistaken understanding that we are a separate and distinct self. The depiction of a translucent child poised singularly in David-esque contrappasto, explores the biologically imperative dualism - definite, sustainable boundaries between organisms and the outside world - with the idea that our bodies are a living channel through which all life is connected.
