ISO 1182 NonCombustibility Test


Theapparatus consisted of the ISO 1182 Non- Combustibility apparatus whichconsists of a special tube furnace manufactured from steel with a polished finish.This single zone furnace has a maximum operating temperature of 900°C. Thecontrol unit consists of a 19” instrument case which houses all instrumentation.This unit consists of a temperature controller, and oven temperature alarm anda power controller. This unit also includes a serial port for hookup for a datalogging feature

ISO Ignitability Test (Spontaneous & Piloted Ignition)

The object ofthis laboratory test was to determine how the time to ignition of differenttypes of engineered wood products. The behavior of each sample material varieswith magnitude of the radiant flux. This mechanism may be considered as thatprocess which produces an exothermic reaction characterized by an increase intemperature greatly above ambient. There are two types of ignition which wereexamined.The term ignition refers to the creation of aflame within a flow of gasses releasing from a solid or liquid. The object of this laboratory report wasto determine how the time to ignition for a test sample varies with magnitudeof the radiant flux. This enabled the calculation of the critical flux of thematerials tested and through calculation using this data in conjunction withthe ignition flux we can estimate the flux time product (FTP) thus enablingthis value to be used for different for different scenarios using the samematerial. br>
Limiting Oxygen Index

The goal of this lab was to calculate the minimum amount of oxygenrequired to sustain combustion for a material called Polymethlmethacrylate (PMMA).This material consists of Aliphatic Carbon-Hydrogen-Oxygen Atoms. This wasachieved by following the procedure laid out in British Standard ISO 4589-31996. The technical term for this test is called the limiting oxygen index.
