This was my first assignment in my Graphic Communications class this semester. Our professor asked us to create a Valentine's Day card for a target audience he felt was often missed by big name card companies. We were asked to design a card for young professionals between the ages of 22 and 30, who were successful and had more sophisticated tastes. Many Valentine's Day cards on the market currently are geared towards a younger audience or a more mature, often married, audience. My goal was to become more comfortable with Adobe Illustrator and create a card that fit this target audience in an unexpected way. Our secondary goal with this project was to effectively use typography as an element of the overall design, not just as a way to communicate the message of the greeting card. I avoided the cliche stereotypical red and pink and decided to go with more muted colors were more fitting for the coffee theme. I also wanted to acknowledge the fact that while Valentine's Day is often thought of as a day for couple to express their love for one another, it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. Read Less
