Digital print altered with handwork. Based on two photographic images and combines needle-punched holes with beadwork.
This work was created by combining a film negative (the portrait) with a digital image (the floral background). In one print, I created a series of holes with a pin and hand-stitched a series of beads. I am excited about this new direction in my practice, where handwork is becoming of greater importance in the final print/image. I am interested in taking the photographic image beyond two-dimensional form and making it an object with which the viewer can have a unique interaction. The altered image is pictured on a light table, but I created it with the idea that the viewer could hold it up and examine it, with the image changing as the print shifted and reacted to the light source.
