The theme of the 2007 print sale, “Prints a’ la Carte”, focuses on the idea of a catered dessert. The design of the promotional materials I produced follows suit through use of elegant fonts and minimalist composition. I used a series of desserts that mimics traditional printmaking techniques, much like the unique prints in a printmaker’s series. The minimal use of color adds drama and emphasizes the specialness of a coveted print.
In stark contrast, the theme of the 2008 print sale, “Hot& Now”, capitalizes on the concept of heat and fire. Through rough texture, grittiness, halftones and vibrant color usage, the promotional material looks as though it may catch flame at any moment. This design also mimics traditional printmaker’s techniques, but communicates a hot newness.
