Tubii Series 2 (2009)
The Tubii series was a personal project. i designed each of the series 2 characters from different styles of hip-hop. Each toy was given as a free download on my website at the time.
SERIES 1
The series 1 characters were much larger and were more like stuffed animals in their poses. For the 2nd series, i wanted to make them more dynamic. The defining feature is the head shape and pot belly so i made the second set a bit smaller and focused on their individual personalities.
SERIES 2 PROTOTYPING
I start by sketching and then prototyping the new parts; just working with scrap paper and molding it into shapes i think are interesting. My focus is on creating an interesting silhouette while being efficient with where the cuts and folds are, that way its not too cumbersome for the person building it. I then take each part, scan them, and trace them into Adobe Illustrator. I then begin my second round of prototyping.
After finalizing the design, i create the instructions and building diagrams for each character. If the build is straightforward, this step should be simple.
