Triangle Stool

Furniture
“Mortising” is the common way of structuring in traditional wood furniture. Hidden in the unseen corners of the furniture, every part was assembled together after calculation. The uniqueness of the stool lies in the association between “the details of mortising” and “the composition of furniture” was zoomed in and focused on.  When people see the stool, they can also see the details oftentimes neglected, and understand the importance of mortising in putting together a piece of furniture.

Since Sono is a kind of dense and hard material, it was a laborious task to make the stool. In addition, with respect to its shape, I first produced three main pieces in order to keep the groove in the triangle area. The place where the stool legs and surface were jointed, the mortising quality was maintained. Through calculating the slope, the legs were then embedded in the surface. Finally, the wedge was mortised to enhance the overall strength.
