The vast majority of all work completed at the bicycle company goes to production. I have been involved in literally hundreds of successfully launched products. The images above are bicycles I worked on (either frame or components). I completed projects for the US, EU and Japan markets and touched every bicycle category. By the numbers, I have helped put over a million butts on bicycles. 
I created the tools above to help my cross functional team visualize success, understand the competition, create differentiated value propositions and to provide a deeper understanding of the products we design. These tools were adopted by many of the cross functional core teams at Trek. To me, design is more than skin deep and includes making educated business decisions and inspired parameters. These tools have proven highly valuable in that effort.
I pioneered the implementation and use of brand oriented, design language tools at the bicycle company. These assets are communication tools used to rally teams around shared understanding of the brand and its trajectory. Each of the examples above came out of a cross functional event involving multiple internal stakeholders. I designed the workshops and led my valued partners through the process. The best results come from a diverse team. Debate is critical to success.  
These tools not only communicate the core design values (emotive descriptors) but also communicate design vibe (form, color or graphical). MIchael Hammond took this type of work to the next level creating a new form of Category specific design language tool that added depth to this already successful process. Likewise, our Director Steve Baumann instigated the use of brand form language sculptures that quite literally represented brand design language in 3D physical form, increasing impact and effective design execution. All of these tools seek to increase the impact of product design and business results.
The TrekConnect event brings riders, prospective riders and dealers together with internal product development teams for fun talk about life, riding and product development. The idea for this event grew out of another cocreation workshop I designed called "Design the Future". These events increase development team interaction with customers (users & retailers), provide retailers with a high value event that brings customers into their store, provides riders with a killer party as well as presentations on bicycle R&D and obviously gives development teams critical insights into the stories and lives of real people riding in real situations. The best ideas never come inside the office. Your customers matter. Get to know them with a Connect event.
These customer centered tools inspired by the real people we met in the field (have people, we'd travel) were used by internal teams for decision-making and product development line planning. Targets matter to focused design efforts. These tools greatly increase communication, debate and team collaboration. Boards from this model year (around 2009?) were created by Michael Leighton, Andrew Krautbauer and Myself.
This electric bicycle research and strategy plan was created by me, Michael Leighton and Jess Braun. We looked at the competitive landscape, technology trends, usage needs and user aspirations to define a product line strategy for US ebikes. At Trek, we were focused on making our Product Manager wildly successful. This work was in support of PM planning and business strategy and led to the launch and long range planning of Ride+ products in the US market.
Bcycle, an innovative bicycle sharing start-up, grew out of a partnership between Trek, Humana, CPB and Magna Marque Intl. I was lucky enough to work on Bcycle from its first embodiments following Humana's "Freewheelin" through two product rev's and launch of the current Bcycle system. The document above is a comprehensive design considerations guide completed in the early stages of development. This work was used for consultation, planning, design execution and the creation of the final product plan, which was pitched to investors and the Board of Directors by my product management partner. The document includes primary site research, user considerations, environmental insights and feedback from competitive system managers as well as secondary insights gleaned from online research. I generated this document and led site research activities with cross functional team from Trek, CPB and Magna.
Product Design! Finally, right? This is the first embodiment of the Bcycle. I was the lead ID resource on the frame, fork, fenders, chain guard, seat post and innovative seat clamp. Michael Leighton was the lead ID resource for the "Barsket" handlebar wedge system. I generated the CAD and rendering above in Solidworks Photoworks with graphics applied in Photoshop. Engineering on Frame and Fork & Barsket- Keith Von Huben & Ryan Galstad.
Bcycle is innovative for a number of reasons but the primary reason is the one-size-fits-most frame and seat post design. This easy-on, easy-off (gender neutral) low step frame enables a wide range of riders to fit the bike and ride comfortably-from 4'8" to 6'3" approx. The benefit to the system manager or municipality is one bike that services the most patrons. The benefit to Bcycle is one frame size greatly reducing the cost, lead time and headache associated with the development and management of multiple bicycle frame sizes. The benefit to the user is a bicycle that rides like a confident dream no matter how large or small. 
I was involved in the design of Bcycle from beginning to launch [bicycle and stations] through rev2. 
You are looking at a beautiful idea that never made it to production, which was a rare occurence at the bike company. The Mod4 four wheel pedal car followed on the heels of the wildly successful Trikester and Mod3 ride-on products. Mod4's goals- Fun, BrandBuild, Fun, MarketExpand, MoreFun and Fun (and yeah, the product manager was a licensed race car driver-foRealz-personal passion never hurt motivation).
We took the concept through production ready package but in the end the cost negotiation didn't pan at out the factory. Regardless, this four-wheel pedal car was a real hoot to work on. We made a number of prototypes, from a pedal quad to pedal car, we had kids test them, we (adults) raced them down the hill in the parking lot and we designed what you see below. My contribution was lead ID resource. I worked on sizing and fit, frame architecture and assembly strategy, design through ID CAD package. My awesome engineering partner, Matt Poster, designed the steering (no small task) and buttoned up all structural requirements, design for manufacturing awesomeness and tolerances.
Somewhere, deep inside the warehouse sits the final proto-tooled version of the product you see below. It is awesome!
