This project was done as a my thesis in my senior year in the Graphic Design program at Western Michigan University. I wanted to investigate the effects of typefaces on the interpretation of textual information. I used homographs to accomplish this. I paired up with a psychology professor, Dr. Douglas Johnson, to conduct research. This project includes research, study design, coding, programming, data analysis, graphic design, typography, writing, and presenting. It was a multi-disciplinary project. *Research is yet to be published Read Less

The Research
Users first saw a word and were asked to think of the first definition that came to mind before pressing 'next'.
After clicking 'next', the user selects the definition that came to mind or the 'neither/unsure' option.
The survey had 5 variations with different typefaces. Each participant would only see one typeface and were not aware that that was what the research was investigating.
