To See more photos by Christ Talbot, visit www.christalbotphoto.com The Hope is Real campaign is a collaborative project between two up and coming artists; Rachel Kalagher and Chris Talbot. The concept for the campaign is simple; let those who struggle know that people they don't even know love them and care; you are not alone. We had each participant hand write their sign, and we asked them to hide their faces with that sign. Their identity wasn't important, it is all about the message behind their words. Read Less

To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. The Hope is Real campaign was a collaborative project, combining art direction and photography to raise awareness for a little known cause. The concept for the campaign was simple; let those who struggle know that people they don’t even know love them and care; you are not alone.
Each participant was asked to hand write the campaign slogan, “hope is real” onto a piece of paper, and to hide their faces from view. The handwritten element adds a personal touch, and allows the viewer to connect on a deeper level. Participants were also asked to dress in a way that reflected their personality; while their faces are hidden, who they are is still important to the viewer.
In addition to the print campaign, various pieces of merchandise have been developed for To Write Love On Her Arms. A collection of postcards has been compiled featuring imagery from the print campaign and personal stories about struggle, pain, and finding hope. Each of the stories takes the reader on a journey through a stranger’s life, and repeats the message, “hope is real.”
Facebook is one of the fastest growing ways to connect with others, and to share information. The 2012 Hope Is Real Music Festival is a fictional event meant to drive awareness to the non-profit through the music community. Those attending the event can vote for their favorite artists and upload videos explaining why they believe that “hope is real.” Winners receive backstage passes, free To Write Love On Her Arms merchandise, and will be featured in the next Hope Is Real campaign.
To Write Love On Her Arms currently sells merchandise on their web store in order to raise funds for people trying to go to rehab. In addition to the postcard collection, Hope Is Real T-shirts, tote bags, and posters can also be purchased and the proceeds will also go towards sponsoring someone through rehabilitation.
