TheRoleAide is an interactive barricade tape of which the role-up system issimilar to that of a tape measure. The flexible tape is made out of organic solar cells and chargesthe internal batteries by day. By night the energy is used to power picoledswhich are located on the foil. Pressing the small function button lets youswitch between pre-programmed sequences.

Thefoil housing is provided with electrical contact points on the inner side. Whenthe foil housing is placed over the rotating housing, the “foil housingcontacts” get linked with the contact points on the outside of the “rotatinghousing”. This way, the replaceable foil gets connected with the internalbatteries. The printed circuit board (driver for the picoleds) is connected by usinga “slip ring”.

For the housing I would recommend ABS, the protective rubber can be made out ofeco-friendly silicone rubber. Other internal components could also be made outof ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) or PP (polypropylene), depending on theprice, strength and lifetime of the part.
