The Design Achievers initiative encourages students to create projects that address needs within society or solve particular problems using principles of design thinking. The project called for development and research regarding such a problem identified by the students. A workable method of addressing this problem had to be devised, as well as thorough research regarding the solutions viability in a real world environment. The Phila initiative focuses on education surrounding Diabetes, particularly among more rural or traditional African groups in South Africa. Thus, visual education methods employed are image rich and represent traditional food sorts and accessible sports activities to encourage healthy living. All communication is designed so it can be optimally absorbed and understood by the target market; and hopefully lead to behavioural change. The design products consist of an educational chart, to be put up at bus stops, and and educational booklet. All illustrations were created for the project. Read Less
