The Equalizer is a quarterly magazine created by Equal Education, an NGO working towards quality and equality in the South African Education System. The magazine is targeted at high school students, predominantly in poor and working class areas. The magazine is used to educate members about their rights, current issues in the education system and keep them updated about the campaigns they are involved in.

As literacy levels are very poor in township and rural schools, the magazine is an important tool to promote reading among students. A recent study found that 51% of South African households do not have a single book in them, while 92% pf public schools lack a functioning library.
