This is a piece for a group show based on stories from The Decameron. This particular story is about a traveling salesman that came to town and fell ill. On his deathbed he convinced everyone in town that he had lived a good life when he was actually a horrible person. After his death the town claimed he was a saint when he was actually a sinner.
I used a gothic halo to represent the saintly aspect of the story and thought that using birds as devil horns would be a fun way to tell his real story.
These were the initial sketches for the idea, I originally liked the first one but eventually decided on the second after showing it around. I still might revisit the first idea for something else.
