1st place at the 2011 International Photography Awards
The Art of Ice has become a most interesting series and project for me since it's inception in 2008. I officially released it in March 2010, gaining notice both locally and internationally.
What you are looking at are photographs of natural ice formations on the surface of small water bodies, streams and bogs. These areas harness the best balance of moisture and cold air for my compositions. The key component is water retention. A few inches is an ideal depth. Mixed with an abrupt freeze it creates a perfect situation for unique occurrences within the ice. Sticks, stones and leaves aid in altering the pattern of the ice during the freeze and become a catalyst for the most engaging results.
