  • I call these sort-of suminagashi because the end product becomes increasingly removed from the original printmaking process. Each of these has a 20x30 print equivalent on glossy paper. I would like to make more with a new approach but lack the funds to do so.

    These prints started as an experiment in chance making art. The number of drops of ink, the colors of ink, and the amount of intervention in the water were all determined by a pair of dice. The prints have opened for me an intriguing dialogue between analog and digital art. They have brought to me the unique satisfaction of preserving and displaying patterns inherent in nature.  These are the same swirls you see when you pour your milk into your morning coffee and the same swirls of plankton blooms moved by the oceans' currents.
