Shadow Line is a font designed by myself and Remy Chard for our third year Typography and Illustration unit. Shadow Line was inspired by the architecture of The Queensland Museum. As interior design students this was a common aesthetic found in our initial concepts. We deconstructed the museum plan and used these elements to create the forms of the typeface. The letter structures use the design principals of balance, denial and reward, subtraction and juxtaposition. The solid forms are balanced with the thin lines and dots. Gestalts theory of closure has been explored through solid forms that have been intersected with angular line work. The structural and geometric nature of the typeface reflects the built forms of the museum. The vinyl cover is an extension of Shadow Line. The arrangement has been designed to articulate the composition of the font and support the aesthetics using line weight to create shadows and a monotone colour palette to emphasis the fonts details. A concrete texture has been applied to reflect back to the museums materiality. Shadow Line appreciates the beauty of The Queensland Museum. Read Less
