• Don't panic! There is plenty for all.
(Turducken - a metaphor for the economy)
  • I don't want to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. But it's true. We're into survival these days. Like animals. And when you're more comfortably surviving this season you may find yourself in the kitchen searching for a recipe to impress. My problem is that classic Christmas cooking is no longer symbolic of where we're at in the world. What if a recipe could provide hope and motivation for a better 2011? What if a recipe was a true reection of where we need to be as a society?
I found the answer online. It's called Turducken.

Wikipedia tells us that it's a roast dish consisting of a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey. Hence the name: TUR-DUC-KEN. Its origins are undoubtedly american. And its online presence would have us believe its popularity is growing exponentially. But it's more than the novel act of inserting three animals into one another.

The recipe starts with a 'crisis'. The bones or 'infrastructure' of the three birds must be removed. This results in inevitable collapse. The x comes with three different stuffngs which once again provide structure and
support in this time of formlessness. Insert them good and deep to spread their flavor equally to all parts.

Now comes the moment of beauty... Join these three birds together by stung the duck into the turkey, and the chicken into the duck. The multiple meat layers create a sturdy system of support and the flavors intertwine.
Place the Turducken in a jumbo-size baking pan and bake until golden. Share this triumph of cooking with your loved ones.

The next time you're down and thinking, 'How do I get out of this situation?'. Think of the turkey. Think of the duck. Think of how the chicken must be feeling. They did not ask for the hand life dealt them. But they made the best of their situation. I think if they could speak they would urge you to seek out the same tenacious integration and harmony they have only been able to achieve in the afterlife.

In the end, everything will be okay. If it's not okay, then you have not reached the end.
Because in the end we shall come together like Turducken.
    Happy holidays.
