  • The completed exploded view - Created in Autodesk's 3D Studio Max 12, rendered with Mental Ray. The Debris was created with the now dated Particle Array, the dispersion was controlled with a cylindrical Particle Bomb. All post were completed in Photoshop Cs 3.
  • The grey model, untextured 3d Galaxy Ace. Note the buttons as well as the slider for the mini-USB. Creation method was Subdivision and I steered away from Booleans as far as possible.
  • The bare bones. Possibly a tad high on the poly count.
  • Progress to solid grey model
  • Progress to Textured model.
  • Adding the simple background. This concludes the 3D work. (apart from the debris particles not show here but visible in the final shot). Now, to Photoshop.
  • Vignetting and some layer blend effects in Photoshop.
  • The 3D work also showing the cut / crack created by animating a Boolean. All geometry was then rotated together but along individual, local coordinates creating the part mismatch / exploded look.
  • Showing some of the particle debris creation with P-Array and P-Bomb (now replaced by the superior Particle view in 3Ds Max).
