It was the little magazine that could. I worked with Editor-in-Chief David DiBenedetto to redesign SaltWater Sportman, a then 67-year-old magazine, and relaunched the magazine in February 2006. I commissioned a new logo from Christian Schwartz and replaced the old fonts with new ones (Chronicle, Popular, and Benton Sans). I hired illustrators like Jack Unruh, Yuko Shimizu, Marcos Chin, John Hendrix , photographers like Nathaniel Welch and Victoria Rich, and incorporated infographics with the works of Bryan Christie and Kevin Hand. The entire architecture was restructured and resulted in a quality service magazine that received a Merit nod from the Henry R. Luce Awards for Best Cover of 2006 and was nominated for the prestigious National Magazine Award (ASME) in General Excellence in 2007, amongst other accolades.
