SENTIR O PLANETA TERRA: Design with Social Responsability

This project is the result of the partnership between the Unversity of Aveiro (Departamento de Comunicação e Arte)
and Vista Alegre, a prestigious porcelain factory located in Ílhavo, Portugal.

The aim of the project was to create ceramic products that could communicate some of the challenges that natural and cultural heritage, related to lagoon systems might face in the future.
The project was supported by a scientific dimension enabling new arguments that diverged from the usual local iconography. This research back-up allowed real problems to be identified, with a new rhetoric that demanded global problems to be communicated through a local case study. The artifacts were the result of the reuse of existing moulds and decals from the company’s porcelain heritage, exploring new configurations that would not be possible through the traditional productive process.

Name of the artifact: "Death to Birds"
Message: The bird communities that currently exist in lagoon systems worldwide are facing serious problems.
Due to habitat destruction through fire and water drenage; pollution and hunting, it is important to communicate
the consequences of these acts.

Present at the 2008 Design for Future exposition in Olhão, Algarve
