Platforming is a strategy which allows unethical brands to revise and create products based on futuring (Introduction to Design Futuring, Tony Fry 1999). As this process is time and resource intensive, companies should (in the meantime), begin advocating positive change by applying simple design futuring practices to their branding and marketing applications. This project is a re-brand of car oil filter company Ryco. Ethical design practices have been applied where possible, in attempt to offset the brand's current unethical product line. Designs aim to address inconsistencies in the brand’s current packaging, whilst reflecting the futurist nature of the company’s desired platform. Please note that this project has been initiated purely for education purposes and does not reflect the views of Rycofilters. Read Less

Description

Research revealed aluminium packaging to be the most efficient to produce and transport. The cylindrical form can also be sealed with a lid – crucial in Ryco's recycling process (presented later).
Customers are advised to make use of the new resealable packaging to contain their used oil-filter. The old oil filter can now be safetly returned to Ryco for R&D or to be recycled into a later product. Infographic instructions for this cycle are featured on all packages and promotional print material.
