A poster for the french opera Romeo et Juliette, hosted by the San Francisco Opera. I was looking to avoide the cliche imagery of a white dove or a rose to represent love. After doing much research into the opera (as it is different than the play) I came across several quotes that I felt summed up the idea of the opera. I chose "our story begins tonight" as my text to work with and concepted ideas from that. The final outcome was a single, simplistic image that visually represented the story: young love that is cut short before it ever gets the chance to blossom. The use of a white lilly carries along its inheriant symbolizm to further the concept.
