The famous chef and TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall opened the second River Cottage Canteen in Plymouth's Royal William Yard. The building is Grade I Listed and a former warehouse of the Royal Navy, built between 1826 and 1835. It features a triple-height ceiling and large outdoor terrace with spectacular views of The Tamar River.

Mackenzie Wheeler conducted the refurbishment and the fit-out creating a unique canteen concept and adapting it to the existing building. The dining area provides space for 120 diners inside and 60 outside, as well as a private dining room. The tables are made of recycled doors and the lighting and timber used throughout the customer areas are reclaimed and locally resourced; iron-framed windows look across the water towards the coast of Cornwall; there's a buzzy open plan kitchen, bar, deli, bakery, shop with book shelves and an open pizza oven.
