"Resolution" An art experiment. February 24, 2012 at 111 Minna Gallery in SF, I made a large grid on the wall with 500 squares. I labeled the coordinates for each square, and encouraged all guests to paticipate. Each guest recieved a card with a paint color and five coordinates. Each guest found their coordinates and painted the assigned color in their squares. The result was captured in a time lapse video. Read Less

I got the idea to make a mural from having people paint shades of grey in squares matching coordinates assigned to them on a card. I wanted to involve everyone who showed up in the creation of an image that would remain a mystery until enough of it was painted to see it. I like the idea of feeding a program into an event, and seeing what can be made.  The experiment was a great success, and I plan on creating more art events that branch from this idea.  The time lapse video below captures the evolution of the grid, from 4:30pm until around 9:30pm, with a frame recorded every 30 seconds. Approximately 120 participants contributed to the painting.
