This body of work is representative of my belief that given oppressive conditions, life can still flourish. When failure or traumatic experiences permeate our lives, misery can encumber our existence and make happiness seem unattainable. At these times, it is important to recall that nature gives and takes, and that the processes of growth and decay are cyclical. These processes are complimentary opposites that when juxtaposed increase the fundamental value of each other: without darkness, light would lose its meaning. Truly, I believe that failures make the positive aspects of life more rewarding and uplifting. Through a presentation of eighteen ceramic forms, I mimic the natural cycle of growth from decay to portray my faith in the resiliency of the human spirit to persist even in hopeless cases. Read Less
