Purple Octopus Branding is the company I founded myself.
In this project I will show you the process of creating the mascot.
I’ve decided to split it up into three projects; logo, mascot and website.
If you have any questions you can leave them in the comments below.
Thanks for your time!
Step one is the most logical first step there is
when it comes down to character design;
the shape of the character.
For my dear Ceekay I already had his shape in my head, so it was really simple to convert that into Illustrator.
I experimented somewhat with the roundness and the balance between the head and the tentacles.
For some reason I always struggle when it comes down to eyes.
I don’t know why, it’s just not my strength!
So the top eyes are the fails that leaded to Ceekay’s eyes.
After those horrible excuses for design I had the right idea in my head and
I made the perfect eyes for the little guy.
Then it was time for the most important part of Ceekay...
The Mustache!
It was something that I didn’t plan, it really was just for fooling around...
But it worked out great!
After that I added some light and shading to add some dimension
and Ceekay was nearly done.
At it’s final stage I lowered his eyes and stache a bit to add some cuteness.
When I was happy with his face it was time to begin with the
suckers (I believe that is the English word)on his tentacles.
I started out putting some in the front and some behind him to add dimension
but it didn’t turn out pretty at all.
So I put them all behind him but I still wasn’t happy.
Then I figured: less is more!
So I decided to just show the tips of the suckers.
So... then I was pretty much done with Ceekay.
But I as on a flow and I wasn’t planning on stopping!
So yeah, I decided to have some fun with him, here is the result!
And that explains pretty much the whole process of designing my beloved Ceekay.
As I already explained in the top,
I will show the process of my website design in a separated project.

So be on the lookout for that one!
