In the spring term of 2013 I took a letterpress class. One of my assignments was to create a piece that was related to my family’s history. I chose to pay homage to the people who lived on my family’s farmland before we did, the Potawatomi Native Americans. I did research on the history of northwest Indiana and visited the historic site where the main trading post was, just up the road from my childhood home. This piece highlights a few of the important events that the native Americans faced and follows the history of our land until my great grandpa bought it in 1918. I used a paper that resembles sand and represented the makeup of the soil in my area. I used an arrowhead that my great grandpa found on our land, applying a half tone screen and making a polymer plate to printed it on either side of the timeline. I did an edition of 40 prints and gave them to my family members as gifts. Read Less
