Portable Hibachi Grill

Portable Hibachi Grill
For outdoors use
This product was born out of the call for a product that would inspire people to leave the comfort of their homes and enter the great outdoors.

Few things can achieve that goal, so I chose to approach the social aspect. Taking inspiration from the interactivity of fondue and hibachi, I chose to design a self-enclosed grill that can be taken anywhere.
The design brief of this product included making the grill portable, with minimal cleanup, and room to store dipping sauces.
I solved the first problem by making the grill and enclosure fit into the same 8x8x8 cube.
Being able to fold the sides of the enclosure up into a box means minimal cleanup at the end of the day.
And the space created underneath the grill body is perfect for storing any dipping sauces.

Folding down the four sides of the box increases the amount of flat, clean surface area available, in the event it is placed on uneven ground.

Additionally, this creates distance between the grill and the enclosure while it's being used, minimizing the amount of heat transfer. This makes for easier handling when the sides need to be folded up.
The grill rack is easily removable for cleaning and access.
At the end of the day all four sides and lid fold up on rounded pin hinges.

Flat pattern stainless steel construction makes for ease of manufacture, rust resistance, and ease of cleaning.
A simple but rugged heavy duty snap affixed to a leather strap ensure the assembly stays closed securely.
