Branding and packaging for Populace Coffee, a small, Michigan-based coffee roaster.
March 2011 —

Populace Coffee is a small, independent roaster of high-quality coffee headquartered in Bay City, Michigan. Andrew, the owner of Populace, came to me looking to update the look and feel of his brand - while retaining the company's original logo.

The goal was not only to update his brand in a way that spoke to the nature of the company, but to do so in a way that would be both cost-effective and easy to maintain with the constraints of a small company.
The labels were designed in a way that will allow for easy editing on Andrew's part - something that's critical for his business given the craft nature of his coffee blends and the regularity with which they change.
The next step was to create a brand experience for Populace, using black and white photography provided by Alicia Dale, the goal was to reflect the blue collar and hard-working nature of Populace, its owner and the town in which the company was founded.

Business cards, letterhead, tabloid poster prints, postcards, and a website were all designed with the goal of connecting with potential customers, clients, and to introduce Populace to a larger coffee drinking audience.
