These photos were taken during a journey to the holy city of Varanasi in spring 2009.
A spiritual ceremony.
Hundreds of Hindu pilgrims gather by the river banks of the holy Ganges every night to celebrate the Pooja
in Varanasi, also commonly known as the holy city of Benares.
A pujari waving a golden torch in the rythm of atmospheric percussion music.
Many ways to enjoy the spiritual ceremony.
Spectators and worshipers.

Sadhus, or so called holy men are not missing at any public Pooja.
Some of the worshipers turned into very enthusiastic participants of the ceremony by pulling strings which rocked the bells.
