The Penguin Awards 2011 was the first competition brief I did and was one of the most enjoyable college projects that I've done to date. The brief for the the Adult Prize was to create a book cover for Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude.
After reading through some of the book and looking at numerous reviews and plot summaries, I decided to express the theme of time and family that the book follows. As you might be able to guess the book is set over a period of 100 years and during this time many generations of the Buendia are born and pass away. So because the book is based on a rhetoric of what happens to them I based my concept on that of a family tree.
This was entered into the Penguin Design Awards in the Adult prize but unfortunately was not shortlisted.
