This was a group project for an architectural seminar class. Each group was given a different type of pencil and was challenged to design an appropriate "holder" for it. Eye liner pencil, mechanical pencil, etc.
My group had a standard yellow #2 pencil.
Our holder became an object that was very simple and easy to manufacture. Just a 2x4 of wood and staples. We choose to make several hundred instead of just the one required to emphasize it's mass produced nature. The curved opening allowed the pencil to be quickly dropped in at multiple angles. This was to speak of the speed of the pencil's creation and the minimal amount of care needed to insert it in because of the pencil's low value.
