Part of a larger body of work from a Senior Creative Thesis project titled "Moan: The Monstrous Sublime", "Olimpia" intends to push the boundaries of photography as a medium of truth and memory to create a phantasmagorical world of symbolic pleasure and disgust.
This world is a world of haptic sensuality, throbbing with the enigmatic pulse of the abject and the uncanny in its examination of corporeal flesh and jouissance. Along with the other photographs in the series also featured in this online portfolio, "Olimpia" attempts to strip down the figure to its visually erotic forms, thrusting the subject into a constant wrestle between its identity as a subject and its anonymity as an object. The female form becomes the figurative loci that convey this tension between attraction and repulsion.
"Moan: The Monstrous Sublime" was exhibited in the Chancellor Green Rotunda at Princeton University and opened on April 26th, 2012 for two weeks. Read Less
