Ofici Nº1 Les Arts Gràfiques Final Degree Project — Best Final Project in Graphic Communication 2012 Promotion – Premis Ei! The first intention of the project is to reclaim the necessary timing needed to obtain good quality results in graphic crafts. The slow speed is an intrinsic factor of the whole process; the more dedication, the better result. Ofici collects three clear functions: 1. Recover: In front of the increasing loss of ancient crafts, recover, not only the processes, but the method and the more vocational aspect of it. 2. Show: Provide the reader a theoretical content, specially selected from the old masters. 3. Demonstrate: Given that it is, to a large extent, a personal project, there was a desire to leave proof of the experience lived while developing the craft learning. The Ofici’s logbook. This book is principally intended to be used for both experimenting and learning. The first purpose of Ofici is to recover the old crafts that have been losing their original sense because of new technologies. This is why that publication wants to document of all the knowledge the designer acquires during the process. A process that will be focused on discovering and working with those who are still performing the old crafts. In this number, about Graphic Crafts, a journey through 4 different spaces that will show the reader the manual method and the accurate work. To obtain theoretical knowledge, three old manuals of the Typesetter, Printer and Binder crafts from the Biblioteca Professional Salessiana (an old crafts school located in Barcelona in the early XX century) were found. A selection from each document will be offered to the reader, giving an academic and a wider perspective of the crafts. On the other hand —and increasing the document's value— the publication gathers the designer's experiences, leaving proof of all the processes the designer goes through, all the knowledge he obtains, offering the reader a more personal vision.
