Of Horses and Men

„There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.“
~Winston Churchill

Without a doubt, there is a great friendship between humans and horses from immemorial times.  Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BC, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. They interact in a wide variety of sport competitions and non-competitive recreational pursuits, as well as in working activities such as police work, agriculture, entertainment, and therapy. Horses were historically used in warfare, from which a wide variety of riding and driving techniques developed, using many different styles of equipment and methods of control.

In Slovakia mainly in villages there are popular cart-horse races which includes disciplines like horse race slalom, burden moving and work with the wood. There are certain jobs that horses do very well, and no technology hasn´t yet developed to fully replace them, especially in forest. The reason of these competitions is to show people an interaction between horse and his master. Following serie includes pictures from cart-horse races, horse polo on snow, hippotherapy and plowing.
