Neon Wilderness looks at neon’s ability to create an identity of a place outside of its usual urban setting. By recontextualising it into a bushland wilderness – the Blue Mountains – it seeks to create a tension between the artificial and the natural, showing how the combination of these two opposing forces can create a unique visual language and set of identities for a place. By establishing a set of glyphs, based on the forms both neon and nature, I focused on creating a series of illuminated symbols for a specific places in the mountains that would ordinarily go unmarked. Here the project explores the way a place is represented in a medium that both re-establishes and re-defines its identity. Read Less
