National Classical Dance Festival
'Sangeet Natak Akadami', the national academy for performing arts organizes dance festivals around India and 'National Classical Dance Festival' is one of them which is a very well known and dignified dance festival of the country.
India is a land of diverse cultures. Dance in India comprises variety of styles. With other aspects of Indian culture, different forms of dances originated in different parts of the country. They developed according to local traditions and imbibed elements from other parts of the country. 'Sangeet Natak Akadami' recognizes eight distinctive traditional dances as 'Indian classical dances'. Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu), Kathak (North India), Kathakali (Kerala), Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh), Manipuri (Manipur), Mohiniyattam(Kerala), Odissi (Orissa) and Sattariya (Assam).
According to hindu mythology, dance is believed to have been conceived by 'Lord Shiva'. Since he is the origin of Indian dance 'Lord Shiva' as 'Nataraj' is worshipped as the lord of dance. To portray this thought convincingly in my hoarding, I illustrated all the classical dance forms in hair of Lord Shiva which we call as 'jata'. As per Hindu mythology it is a belief that Lord Shiva drank poison which evolved at the time of Samudra Manthan which was done by all the gods and evils. His throat became blue. From than he was known as 'Neelkanth' (blue throated). Hence I used blue color scheme to portray him.
