Mountain Biking 2011
Photography by Lars Scharl

This project showcases some of my recent work in the MTB scene. In 2011 I traveled a lot - I accompanied a German Fourcross worldcup team during their race season and covered some of the biggest Freeride MTB events in the world. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Sam Pilgrim shows a huge backflip nohander off the Kokanee Cabin drop at the Red Bull Joyride in Whistler, Canada. I shot the single shots as vertical format shots with a Canon 7D and the EF-S 10-22mm and then stitched the shots together to receive a bigger angle of view, less optical distortions in the image and more details of the surroundings.

Guido Tschugg, arguably Germany's best-known MTB racer, during a practice session on a DH track in Whistler, Canada. Here I used the Canon 7D with one remote flash on the left side of the shot.

Antti Rissanen, a young Finnish dirtjumper, during a photosession in Kuopio, Finland. The action shot was taken with a 7D and two remote flashes, the portrait is natural light only.

Bienvenido Aguado Alba at the Nine Knights MTB event on top of the Wildkogel, Austria. I shot this using the same technique as in the Sam Pilgrim shot above and additionally used three Canon EZ540 Speedlites to illuminate the sequence.

Martin Söderström at the Nine Knights MTB event on top of the Wildkogel, Austria. Natural light only.

Moritz Zapp with a nice Superman Seatgrab during an early season photoshoot in Bad Aibling, Germany. Again, Canon 7D - this time combined with dual Profoto Acute flashes.
